WHAT IS A FACELIFT?
A facelift, or facial lift, is a procedure involving plastic surgery a6> which allows the skin to be tightened in order to eliminate wrinkles and imperfections, especially sagging and drooping of the skin which create the signs of the passing years on the face and the neck. The aim is to achieve a rejuvenation of the face with a natural a34>natural and fresh in a permanent manner, following a quick recovery.
As we age, the skin begins to lose its elasticity; not only does it become more saggy, but the face also starts to lose volume. We lose muscle and fat, and as a result, the face appears deflated and the shadows under the eyes become more pronounced; the area around the mouth and the cheeks along the jawline also take on an aged or tired appearance.
The results of the facelift enable restoring to the face its vitality and achieve a lasting rejuvenating effect on form lasting because it treats the structures deepest layers of the facial tissues and the neck.
A facelift does not change the expression of the face. Although we stretch the skin to remove imperfections caused by age, the expression remains the same, just as natural and personal.
Although traditionally the simple facelift was performed on patients aged over 65 years, nowadays more and more people a13> there are more people over the age of 40 years who opt for a facelift to correct the first signs of ageing, such as small wrinkles, sagging and drooping.
What is a neck lift?
The area of the neck, along with the face is another area affected by the ageing of the skin, which is prone with age to developing sagging in the form of vertical lines a20> vertical lines on the part of the neck or the appearance of the double chin which blurs the contour of the face.
A neck lift is a surgical procedure that allows excess fat and skin to be removed from the neck area using a minimally invasive technique that involves fat removal and the suturing of the platysmal bands.
Both a facelift and a neck lift are procedures that are relatively painless, although the swelling in the area during the first few days may be uncomfortable.
The results of a facelift are very long-lasting, but the procedure does not stop the passage of time, which is why the skin will continue to age, but with a look that is more youthful and full of life toned and full of life.

In fact, there are many different types of facial stretches and the results depend to a large extent on the assessment by the surgeon during the initial consultation and techniques during the surgery.
At Pedralbes Clinic, we offer our clients a range of options for rejuvenating their face, including surgical as well as non-surgical options and combat the signs of ageing.
How is a facelift performed
1. Preliminary assessment. Before the surgery, the plastic surgeon conducts a detailed consultation to assess the facial structure, the quality of the skin and the goals of the patient. Medical tests are requested to a22> to ensure that the person is in optimal condition for the operation.
2. Anaesthesia. The procedure, which lasts about 2 hours approximately, is usually carried out under general anaesthesia or, in some cases under local anaesthesia and sedation, depending on the extent of the surgery.
3. Incisions. The surgeon makes incisions usually in areas that are hardly visible:
- Along the line of the hair.
- Around the ears.
- In some cases under the chin if also the neck is corrected.
To remove the tissue that is surplus by making an incision that begins in the upper part of the head and continues along the inside of the natural lines natural lines that exist in the ear and around the lobe, behind the ear and the scalp hair-bearing. The scars are perfectly concealed by the hair and will be almost imperceptible.
4. Repositioning of tissues. Once the incisions have been made, the surgeon separates the skin, repositions the muscles and tissues of the face deep tissues (a system known as SMAS) and removes the excess of skin and fat.
5. Modesty. The skin stretches gently backwards and upwards, is adjusted over the new facial structures and is sutured with fine stitches to minimise scarring.
6. Recovery
- The patient usually stays in hospital for 1 night.
- The dressings are removed within a few days.
- The swelling and the bruises disappear gradually over 2 to 3 weeks.
- The final results become apparent after a few months, revealing a face that is more firm and rejuvenated.
