WHAT IS CANTOPEXY
canthopexy is a simple procedure that tightens the lower eyelid and lifts its position. As people get older, their skin becomes less elastic, a19> less elastic, which contributes to the drooping of the eyelids lower eyelids and the appearance of bags under the eyes. The difference between cantoplasty and cantopexy
Cantoplasty and cantopexy can be performed solely for cosmetic reasons and to remove the bags under the eyes allowing the face to appear more youthful. Although the terms are sometimes used in an interchangeable manner, cantoplasty and cantopexy are different surgical procedures.
“Cantoplasty ” refers to a procedure designed to reinforce the lower support of the eyelid by separating the tendon lateral canthal of the orbital bone and the construction of a replacement.
Cantoplasty is more invasive than cantopexy. Because it shortens the lower eyelid slightly, if the surgery fails over several years, or if the sagging of the lid progresses, there is no greater amount of tissue in the lower eyelid than there is enough to remove to correct the problem. Some surgeons reserve cantoplasty for people who have functional problems with the eyelid, such as ectropion, and the use of a procedure canthopexy for the treatment cosmetic of the lid.
” Canthopexy “, refers to a procedure less invasive procedure designed to stabilise or reinforce the tendon already present (as well as the surrounding structures) by means of surgical suturing without removing it from its normal attachment.
Antopexy is much less invasive than cantoplasty. Cantoplasty is a operation that is delicate as the anatomy of the canthus is delicate and complex. If the cantoplasty is not properly carried out the union between the upper and lower eyelids a24> upper and lower may become rounded, retracted, or deformed either immediately or over the course of several years.
