Rhinoplasty secondary or revision rhinoplasty
Correction of previous unsatisfactory rhinoplasties
Secondary rhinoplasty is a surgery more complex than primary rhinoplasty, since the surgeon must work on tissues that have already been altered, with possible internal scars and altered structure.
When is a secondary rhinoplasty necessary?
- Aesthetic results that are not satisfactory following a previous rhinoplasty
- Appearance excessively artificial or unnatural
- Respiratory problems that arose following the first surgery
- Asymmetries or irregularities in the nose
- A ‘collapsed’ nose or one with a drooping tip
- Visible scars or contractures
- Deformities caused by excessive loss of cartilage

Why is it more complex than a primary rhinoplasty?
Revision rhinoplasties are more complex and demanding, as they involve surgery on an area that has already been operated on, which results in:
- Altered anatomy: The nasal structure has already been modified
- Scar tissue: It can hinder the visibility and the work of the surgeon
- Possible lack of cartilage: If too much was removed during the first surgery
- Increased risk of complications: The tissues have been previously manipulated
- Expectations of the patient: They tend to be higher after a previous negative experience
The knowledge of the area and the experience of the surgeon are, if anything, even more important than in a primary rhinoplasty.
Before and after secondary rhinoplasty

When to have revision rhinoplasty:
It is recommended to wait at least at least 12 months since the initial rhinoplasty for the nose to have healed completely and the swelling has disappeared entirely. In some cases, it may be necessary to wait up to 18 months.
What results can you expect:
Although secondary rhinoplasty is more complex, in experienced hands it is possible to achieve excellent results. The aim is:
- Correct the shortcomings of the surgery performed previously
- Get a nose harmonica that sounds natural
- Restore or improve respiratory function
- To give the patient the confidence that they did not gain from their first rhinoplasty
If you’re not happy with a previous rhinoplasty, don’t give up hope. We can help you achieve the nose you’ve always wanted.
